Announces its Species at Risk in Action Education Kit.
This kit will:
  • Connect students with their local environment
  • Connect students with the ideas and tools that will allow them to make long-lasting changes in their school, home and community
  • Challenge students to think about how they can be part of the solution instead of focusing on the problems
  • Empower students to care for the vulnerable species in their local area
  • Provide students with new perspectives and ideas towards achieving ecological sustainability and biodiversity

The Ministry of Natural Resources is a strong supporter of stewardship and biodiversity conservation in Ontario. The new Land Stewardship and Habitat Restoration Program was created to contribute to the maintenance and restoration of our natural ecosystems.
The program offers eligible organizations support to undertake land stewardship and habitat restoration for biodiversity conservation. This work helps ensure the sustainability of healthy habitats over the long term.

Beavers and Us - April 22nd in Perth

The Stewardship Councils of eastern Ontario are hosting an all-day workshop on beavers on Monday, April 22 in Perth. The program will be of great interest to rural landowners and all are welcome.

Solutions for beaver management will be shared, and excellent speakers are lined up, on such topics as:

Effects of Beaver Activity on Groundwater Far From the Beaver Ponds

Successful Beaver Management: Tools and Plans by Michel Leclair (of Nature of Things program: The Beaver Whisperers  www.cbc.ca/natureofthings/beaverwhisperer/

Participants need to register, for lunch only. The program is also available at www.specialplaces.ca/beaverworkshop
