eDNA Technician Job Position with SLELO PRISM Job Description The PRISM eDNA Technician will help implement an environmental DNA (eDNA) project that will assist with monitoring for the early detection of aquatic invasive species in connected waterbodies of the St. Lawrence Eastern Lake Ontario (SLELO), and the Adirondack Park Invasive Plant Program (APIPP) Partnerships for Regional Invasive Species Management (PRISM). The eDNA field sampling will primarily occur in Herkimer, Lewis, Jefferson, and St. Lawrence counties. The eDNA Project Technician will participate in biological monitoring, sample collection and processing, scheduling sampling trips, and taking underwater videos of aquatic systems, and will prepare Sample Site Profiles. This is a temporary/seasonal position that will require a commitment of at least 35 hours per week for approximately 10-12 weeks, from June 1 through August 19, which may require occasional work on weekends. This is an hourly position with a pay rate of $18.05 per hour for a 35-hour work-week, generally Mondays through Fridays, with the flexibility to work an alternate schedule of four long days each week.

Coordinates and schedules water sample collection time and dates in cooperation with Conservancy staff and/or volunteers.
Coordinates the delivery of samples to the laboratory and pick up of refreshed field kits.
Uses field collection equipment, filtering systems, and data collection forms.
Uses GPS technology for tracking sample collection sites.
Uses underwater video equipment.
Ensures consistent and quality ecological data collection and management.
Maintains tools and equipment.
Prepares Sample Site Profiles.
Receives detailed instructions to complete required tasks.
Works alone long hours in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, and under physically demanding circumstances and assesses and manages risks associated with working conditions.
Resolves routine issues independently and may work under close supervision on some projects or infrequent supervision on others.
May help plan and direct workgroups, staff, citizen scientists, or volunteers.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED and 1 year’s training in science-related field or related experience in natural resources.
Experience with basic field-testing equipment or laboratory equipment.
Experience performing physical work.
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Experience swimming.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor’s degree in a natural resource field or the equivalent in education and lab/field experience.
Experience with underwater cameras and video equipment.
Experience with basic powerboat operation and water safety (NYS boater safety certification desirable).
Familiarity with driving and towing a boat and/or trailer.
Working knowledge of GPS technology and basic computer skills.
Ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision.
Ability to help plan and direct workgroups, staff, citizen scientists or volunteers.
Experience using software applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Experience with Geographic Information Systems and writing scientific reports.
Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience are appreciated.
ADDITIONAL JOB INFORMATION: The position is based out of The Nature Conservancy’s Pulaski, NY office but work will be conducted in the field.
