Making Connections Across a Fragmented Landscape

On April 13, 2023, the A2A Collaborative hosted its second biennial science symposium at St. Lawrence College in Kingston, ON. Scientists, NGOs, and government departments shared the ways they are working to increase connectivity throughout the Algonquin to Adirondack biological corridor region. This years keynote speaker was Dawn Carr, Director of Strategic Conservation at Nature Conservancy of Canada, who gave a wonderful presentation on the need for collaboration among conservation organizations for ecological connectivity in light of the recent COP15 in Montreal. We had 15+ speakers share their research on road ecology, mapping connectivity, ecological connectivity, and how we can work together to protect and conserve the A2A region. From presentations about using eDNA to assess fish populations and diversity, to analyzing the representation of ecosystem types within protected areas in the A2A region, this years science symposium was a success!
