Vision

Our Vision

We envision an Algonquin to Adirondacks region that is a resilient, ecologically connected landscape which sustains a full range of native wildlife and enhances people's quality of life for generations to come. Through attainment of this vision, the landscape will:
  • Sustain ecological integrity;
  • Support a rich mosaic of interconnecting wildlife habitats;
  • Strengthen native biological diversity;
  • Provide resilience to climate change and other human disturbances;
  • Function as a critical link in conserving native biodiversity in eastern North America;
  • Support working landscapes and vibrant, ecologically sustainable human livelihoods;
  • Contribute to the physical, mental, cultural, and spiritual well-being of human communities in the region;
  • Inspire an increasingly strong stewardship ethic and sense of “home place” among residents of the A2A region.

Our Mission

The A2A Collaborative facilitates a network of partner organizations working to connect lands and people across the Algonquin to Adirondacks region, to enhance a critical link for biodiversity and resilience in eastern North America.  The A2A Collaborative aims to achieve this mission by:
  • Collaborating at multi-national, national (the United States, Canada, and First Nations), regional, and local levels to develop strategic regional and site-specific initiatives;
  • Helping to establish and disseminate leading edge science-based and aboriginal traditional knowledge to guide planning and stewardship actions across the A2A region;
  • Supporting grassroots and on-the-ground efforts that help us advance toward our Vision;
  • Promoting ecologically-sustainable land use;
  • Engaging in public outreach and education;
  • Fostering a sense of pride and home-place among the residents of and visitors to the A2A region.

Strategic Plan 2016-2021

The A2A Collaborative convened a Strategic Planning Committee in 2012. The committee consisted of board members and volunteers from partner organizations. In consultation with the Board of Directors, the committee developed a draft strategic plan that was circulated to partners in March 2014 and discussed at the Inaugural Partner Meeting, and approved by the Board after further consultations in April 2016.  This document, which lays out the A2A vision, objectives, and actions, is viewed as a living document that will be revisited on an annual basis.   Download our  Strategic Plan here.
